Seeking Help

When and How to Seek Professional Help

Many parents worry about seeking help “too early” or overreacting.

In reality, early support often prevents problems from becoming more serious.

Consider Seeking Professional Support If:

  • Symptoms are persistent or worsening
  • Your child’s mood or behavior interferes with daily life or overall functioning
  • Your child expresses hopelessness or thoughts of self-harm
  • Your child has harmed themselves on purpose
  • Your child has had major changes in their behavior for more than two weeks
  • You feel unsure how to help or are feeling overwhelmed

Where to Start:

  • Your child’s primary care provider or pediatrician
  • A school counselor or social worker
  • A mental health provider
❣️

Seeking help does not mean your child will need long-term treatment.

It means you are responding to important issues with care.
