Many parents worry about seeking help “too early” or overreacting.
In reality, early support often prevents problems from becoming more serious.
Consider Seeking Professional Support If:
- Symptoms are persistent or worsening
- Your child’s mood or behavior interferes with daily life or overall functioning
- Your child expresses hopelessness or thoughts of self-harm
- Your child has harmed themselves on purpose
- Your child has had major changes in their behavior for more than two weeks
- You feel unsure how to help or are feeling overwhelmed
Where to Start:
- Your child’s primary care provider or pediatrician
- A school counselor or social worker
- A mental health provider
- Contacting RBHI for help finding resources or providers
- National resources listed in this guide
Seeking help does not mean your child will need long-term treatment.
It means you are responding to important issues with care.
